Can Going Green Grow Your Business?

Okay. Unless you've been living under a rock (in which case you aren't doing much business anyway!) you have to have noticed a lot of talk about "green"--green building, green living, green products, etc.  It's now hard to imagine life before green.  But it should be clear that green is the direction every sector is heading so you've got two choices. 
 
Consider the lobster.  A lobster creates a hard shell to keep his/her soft body safe from predators and other dangers.  Trouble is, the lobster continues to grow while the shell stays the same size.  There comes a time at which the lobster must make a very tough choice: 1) stay safe inside his/her shell but eventually succomb to overcrowding or 2) escape death by abandoning the shell but potentially trading death-by-asphyxiation for death-by-predator while waiting for a new, bigger shell to form.  The fact that we continue to have lobster on the menu would suggest that lobsters have chosen option number 2.
 
What does this have to do with real estate professionals?  It would appear that with the growth of green you will no doubt be confronted with your own survival choices: 1) Ignore the green agenda and slowly suffocate-by-non-relevance, or 2) take the apparently risky step of going green which might label you for a time as being too liberal but ultimately will ensure your survival as a real estate business pro.
